Is that they are many cars that cost less and have the same power, or cost the same and have more power. ( EDITED )

I know that Ferrari's are great cars, but the baby of the range sure isn't the top of the class.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

… and I'm sure I'm missing some.

EDIT: Also they are really too many self indulgent wieners. Maybe I'm a hipster but I never go for the obvious choice.

WHY MUST YOU POST RED CORVETTE Z06!?

I'm not drooling, what are you talking about?

Yeah, but it's a Ferrari.

I'd have the California over all of those though.

But its like the 320i …. you only bought it for the badge.

Yeah, but the other side of the coin is that a lot of people care 1/10th as much as you and I do about cars. Some of those people grow up to be rich and they say "I have a couple hundred grand to kill and I always wanted a Ferrari"

Then the walk into the dealership, discover they dont even have to know how to drive a manual and that there's one available with a drop top. SOLD

Exactly. People who buy the California aren't out for the best performance for the price, they want a Ferrari.

I couldn't, just knowing I could get all the others optioned the way I want for the base price of the California or almost both of the americans is a deal breaker.

That's probably true for a lot of people. But you have to remember; a Ferrari often isn't something you cross-shop. You buy it because you want one, not because it's the best value.

It will (probably) be the cheapest out of every car posted above & just about the quickest too.

Yeah but that's nothing new. Ferraris have always cost more than cheaper cars with less power. This is especially true on the lower models in their range. They've always been about the handling, sound, badge, etc. Now that they are going turbo charged the sound is going to suffer.

The only time they have a ton of power compared to other cars is when they make their occasional hyper car. But those things are crazy expensive so they're still not good value when calculated on a $ per HP basis.

The best values on a $ per HP basis will always be cars like the Z06 and modded base model exotic cars. You can buy an Underground Racing Gallardo for $275K or a modded GTR for less than that which will blow away much more expensive cars.

There's no was in hell it's going to break $80k. Even if it broke 90K it would still be the cheapest.

Then again, pretty much every new car would be off my list of actual cars I'd buy if I didn't have unlimited funds.

Until the F-type came out the Ferrar was definitely the prettiest in it's class. the Audi and the Aston are up there but they have hardly changed in 10 years.

Nothing wrong with buying entry level, that's how we got the Dino and it's the prettiest Ferrari ever made (in before it wasn't a real ferrari wankery)

I suppose you're right … which is why I'd get the aston.

The biggest problem with that comparison is that all of those are top of the line cars for their marques. It's a "premium" mercedes AMG. You bought an Audi R8, a boring plebeian 100,000$ car, and just "upgraded it" to cost the same as a California.

But the California is a ferrari . There is no California S or anything priced above it as a California. Sure, there are options, but you're driving the ideal car, not some tarted up lower end car or some base-model bargain bin car.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I hated the previous California, esp. its ass. They did a shit job hiding how big it is with that stupid black out section.

Ferrari doesn't currently make any car I would want to buy. Go back one generation, and they have two: the 430 and the 599.

That said, the California T is the only current one I'd at least consider. Ferrari designs right now are just too busy looking for me with conflicting swoops. I love their interiors, though.

Out of the above, I have to go with the Z06, in that colour even. It just looks too mean to pass up. And yes, I'd take it with the 8-speed.

She's just got some junk in the trunk, she's still good.

Also everyone knows the worst colour to get a Ferrari in is red :P

To be honest though, if I were in the market for a car in this class, I'd just go with whichever I liked more, probably wouldn't even cross shop them or look for the best value at all. :p

Kinja'd!!! Milky > GhostZ
06/03/2014 at 20:34

Kinja'd!!!1

The counterpoint would be the Aston, but I see your point.

I still would argue that though because its not very "ideal" when your Ferrari isn't beating anyone in a race.

Kinja'd!!! Milky > BlazinAce - Doctor of Internal Combustion

Guess I'm just not wealthy enough to understand how rich people shop.

Kinja'd!!! BlazinAce - Doctor of Internal Combustion > Milky
06/03/2014 at 20:53

Kinja'd!!!0

Trust me, I'm not either... :p

But that's kind of how I'd shop for any car. I'd look for something I actually like, even if it's not the best value or best in class, because then I'd be in it for the long haul. I've owned my current car since 2006, and it belonged to my dad since 1995 before that, so I've effectively "had" it for 18 years. And since I don't plan on getting rid of it, value isn't a big priority.

when the cali first came out, i think some one on jalop wrote that the cheap mid engine ferrari is the one that people who always want a ferrari actually buy. the california, they explained is the car that the salesman sells to somone who is told that always wanted/needed a ferrari.

But if you paid a bit more you could get a 12c, which is a 10 second car.
